Madame Doubtfire book VOCABULARY

CHAPTERS 1 & 2:
Be fair: To treat people equally without favouritism or discrimination.
Turn to: Move or cause to move in a circular direction wholly or partly around an axis or point
Take care of: Keep (someone or something) safe and provided for.
Babysitter: A person who looks after a child or children while the parents are out.
Disappointed: Sad or displeased because someone or something has failed to fulfil one's hopes or expectations
Wipe: Clean or dry (something) by rubbing with a cloth, a piece of paper, or one's hand
Argue about: Fight about
To be upset by: To be unhappy, disappointed, or worried
 Trust anyone: Belief in someone

 
CHAPTERS 3 & 4:
The line was dead: That one of the two people hang up (in telephone calls)
Hang up: End a telephone conversation by cutting the connection
Warn: To say a warning
Nod: Lower and raise one's head slightly and briefly, especially in greeting, assent, or understanding, or to give someone a signal.   
Make-up: (the same as in Spanish)
Shake hands with: Take someone's hands and shake them as a gesture of greeting or congratulation
Apply for: Make a formal application or request
Sweat: Moisture exuded through the pores of the skin, typically in profuse quantities as a reaction to heat, physical exertion, fever, or fear.

CHAPTERS 5 & 6:
Kittens: A young cat. 
Honeymoon: A holiday spent together by a newly married couple

CHAPTERS 7 & 8:
Nude: Without clothes
Play: (theater)
Pillar: An upright shaft or structure, of stone, brick, or other material, relatively slender in proportion to its height, and of any shape in section, used as a building support, or standing alone, as for a monument:
To be glad: Feeling pleasure or happiness
To add: To join (something) to something else so as to increase the size, number, or amount
To be frustrated: Feeling or expressing distress and annoyance resulting from an inability to change or achieve something
Marriage: The legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship   
To get divorced: To do an official or legal process to end a marriage:
To pretend: To behave so as to make it appear that something is the case when in fact it is not.
"Yours sincerely": A way to say goodbye in the letters
Intent: Invent
Appointment: An arrangement to meet someone at a particular time and place.
Lean: To incline the body in a certain direction
Feel jealous: To feel upset and angry because someone that you love seems interested in another person or because someone has something that you want
To lie: To say an inaccurate or false statement; a falsehood.
Handwriting: A style or manner of writing by hand
Loud: With good volumen or intensity
Take off: To remove something, especially a piece of clothing

CHAPTERS 9 & 10:
Fastener: A button, zip, or other device for temporarily joining together the parts of things such as clothes
Be childish: To behave as a child
Hedgehogs: (An animal)
Complaining: To express dissatisfaction or annoyance about something
Be on strike: To refuse to continue working because of an argument with an employer about working conditions, pay levels, or job losses:
To be naked: To be nude
Arrive on time: To come to a certain place during the appointed time
Shawl: A piece of fabric worn by women over the shoulders or head or wrapped round a baby.
Realise: To understand late something in a clear way

CHAPTERS 11 & 12:
Selfish: Lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.
Be shining: (the Sun) producing light
Smelly: Having a strong bad smell
Knock: The sound that produce striking a surface noisily to attract attention, especially when waiting to be let in through a door
Bed sheets: The sheets for a bed
Sharp: Having an edge or point that is able to cut or pierce something
