CONDITIONAL SENTENCES

If clause + main clause

  • ZERO
If/When + present,.../present
  • FIRST
If/Unless + present,.../future (imperative or modal)
  • SECOND
If + past simple,.../would (could or might) + infinitive
  • THIRD
If + past perfect,.../would have (could have or might have) + past participle (-ed or 3rd column)

  • I WISH/IF ONLY + SIMPLE PAST → wish/desire
  • I WISH/IF ONLY + WOULD → complaint
  • I WISH/IF ONLY + PAST PERFECT → regret
