MICHAEL'S STORY


CHAPTER 7 - The Night in the Barn

Subsequent: Coming after something in time; following
Collide: To hit violently
Maid: A woman who works as a servant in a hotel or in someone's home
Scapegoat: A person who is blamed for something that someone else has done
Hay: Grass that is cut and dried and used as animal food
Caught fire to: To burn something
Gate:  A structure like a door which is used at the entrance to a field, a garden, or the grounds of a building.
Stall: An individual compartment for an animal in a stable or cowshed, enclosed on three sides
Barn: A large farm building used for storing grain, hay, or straw or for housing livestock
Pot: A rounded or cylindrical container
Saddles: A seat fastened on the back of a horse or other animal for riding, typically made of leather and raised at the front and rear

CHAPTER 8 - A Chaotic Situation

Grab: Grasp or seize suddenly and roughly
Attempt: An effort to achieve or complete a difficult task or action
I couldn't bear to...: Like put up with

CHAPTER 9 - An Impostor

Held the breath: Be excited, anxious, or nervous
To take a bow:

A hostile look: An unfriendly loook
Courage: The ability to do something that frightens one; bravery
Witness: A person who sees an event, typically a crime or accident, take place
Triumphant expression:

Try: Subject (someone) to trial

CHAPTER 10 - Michael's Plan

Once and for all!: Now and for the last time; finally
Cheeks:

Put it right: To fix up some situation
In spite of...: Without being affected by the particular factor mentioned
In turmoil: In a state of great disturbance, confusion, or uncertainty
Hesitate: Pause in indecision before saying or doing something.

CHAPTER 11 - Abigail's Best Performance

On behalf of: When speaking for someone. For example, a medical decision would be made in behalf of the patient, and you would speak on behalf of your family
A glimpse of her face: To see or perceive briefly or partially
My heart filled with joy: Used for saying that someone starts to feel very happy or proud
To be out of reach: To be beyond the capacity of someone to attain something

CHAPTER 12 - Moving On

To wander around: To walk around slowly without any clear purpose or direction
To freeze to death:
